Rafael Moraes is an AI Developer at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) who contributed significantly to the development of Canada's first public-facing generative AI chatbot, which won the Public Service Data Challenge in 2023. In this project, he was responsible for the technical development, particularly focusing on integrating the chatbot with authoritative datasets to prevent hallucinations. Holding a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Newcastle University (2021), his shift to AI was driven by the potential for rapid experimentation and the capacity to create impactful solutions independently. He also created a deduplication tool for aiding the ATIP process, significantly reducing manual document review time. His work at AAFC underscores a commitment to applying AI for governmental efficiency and public service improvement.
