Buzzwords are fascinating. They provide a rallying point for technological change, but often hide a lot of underlying complexity. And the term “Agile” is a prime example. Credited with all manner of miracles, Agile is actually much more than a process or checklist—it’s a culture.

Agile organizations combine a new leadership style, collaborative cross-organizational teams, and continuous deployment. They’re a recognition that traditional IT mindsets don’t work any more. But how do we ask leaders to be more tolerant of experimentation, rather than punishing attempts to learn and making perfect the enemy of good enough? Because without this kind of shift, Agile efforts are doomed.
