Annette Hester heads TheHesterView Inc., specializing in making data more approachable and effective through innovative data structuring and visualization.

She advised the president of Petrobras and recently completed a data project with Natural Resources Canada. Ms. Hester serves on the Canadian Statistics Advisory Council and is the region head for data governance and policy at Oxford Analytica. Previously, she coordinated projects for the Canada Energy Regulator and the Inter-American Development Bank, both developing interactive data-rich websites. In
2012, she was a senior strategic advisor to the Deputy Minister and Premier Policy Director in the Government of Alberta, Canada.

Ms. Hester holds a master’s degree in economics and was the founding director of the Latin American Research Centre at the University of Calgary.

In this talk, we will share the story of our innovative pilot project focused on the data from the Metals and Minerals Exploration Survey. This journey began with Sarah Heath from NRCan, who identified the initial problem. We then recruited Jagoda Walny, who was working for the Canada Energy Regulator, for her expertise and leadership, and finally, the viewpoint of Dianna Miller who joined NRCan midway through the process and had to navigate the project to completion.
