Announcing the FWD50 Third Sector Program

Published On Aug 13, 2024

Once upon a time we launched RAP, and it was good. Last year we launched NDLB, and it was good, too.

This year, after seeing so many amazing civic tech orgs at the Creative Bureaucracy Festival (CBF) and throughout the world, we’ve decided that Civic Tech and NGO organizations should be able to join us. So we’re launching our Third Sector Program. The idea for this was prompted by a request from a person at the Federation of American Scientists, which got us thinking.

There are plenty of government-adjacent agencies doing great work. The folks at Code for Canada (C4C) have been part of FWD50 since the start. Our new co-host, Hillary Hartley, is head of the US Digital Response (USDR). Neither C4C nor USDR is part of government, so they don’t qualify for the regional passes, even though their organizations often span many regions or even the globe. They are an indispensable part of how society functions. This third sector deserve a spot at the table.

To qualify, you must be one of the first two people within your organization to apply. And you must work for a qualifying organization, which we define as:

  • Be currently employed with a public-sector focused nonprofit, civic tech, or non-governmental organization.

  • Submit an application from your official work email address.

  • Provide additional proof of organization and role if required.

  • Be one of the first two people to claim a pass.

Examples of qualifying organizations include Code for Canada, the Federation of American Scientists, and the Falling Walls Foundation.

Since the world of Civil Society is complex, we get to decide what constitutes “public-sector focused.” We can’t anticipate every decision we’ll need to make about qualifications, so we appreciate you trusting us with deciding that on a case-by-case basis, and respecting the resulting decision.

If approved, you’ll get a virtual pass to FWD50 on October 10, November 4, and November 5, 2024, as well as access to all talk recordings. FWD50’s online event is much more than just a livestream; it’s built atop a community platform designed to let you comment, connect, manage your calendar, and make the most of your time together. And you can upgrade your virtual ticket to an in-person pass for the difference in price, should you want to join us in Ottawa November 4-6.
