Matt Toner (he/him)

Deputy Leader, BC Green Party

Matt Toner is a serial entrepreneur, digital media producer, visiting professor, and politico working hard in Vancouver’s innovation industry.  With previous stops in New York and Toronto, he has built his career in Vancouver, receiving the city’s Award of Excellence for business innovation in 2014.

Matt brought this disruptive approach to provincial politics, becoming a Deputy Leader of the BC Green party in the run-up to their historic electoral breakthrough in 2017.  Following the confirmation of British Columbia’s minority government, he carved out and negotiated the specifications for two signature vehicles for innovation: the Emerging Economy Task Force and the Innovation Commission, announced in the government’s first Throne Speech.

Prior to his career in digital media, Matt served as an economist at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa and as a diplomat at the Canadian Consulate General in Manhattan, New York.
