Open Data for Justice: Tracking down NYC's worst slumlords

“Sunlight is the best disinfectant.” Using open data and digital tools can help level the playing field for society’s most vulnerable. One example of this is JustFix, a technology nonprofit that builds data-driven tools for tenants and organizers fighting displacement in New York City.

In this session, Justfix co-founder Georges Clement—Cheng Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and Forbes 30 Under 30—will dive into how the organization’s community-led development created digital services for self-represented tenants trying to navigate the Byzantine housing justice ecosystem in NYC.

The session will also highlight Justfix’s “who owns what” Housing Data Dashboard—a new resource for community organizers, tenant leaders, and government officials that demystifies property ownership and shell company networks across New York City.
