We are in a crisis of meaning. Filter bubbles have destroyed our ability to make sense of the world, and with it, our ability to choose a future we believe in together. And those bubbles are about to get worse, turning into echo chambers of one, an endless discourse between humans and their sycophantic AI companions.
So how do we create an instant, new, grass-roots system that can restore trust from the ground up? Roundabout is an attempt to do just that, by creating an open, local platform for neighbors to connect. At the helm is Canadian software pioneer Blaine Cook the lead developer of Twitter who coined the term tweet, developed @ replies, and developed OAuth, the tech that lets you log in with your Google account or other services.
In this conversation with FWD50 chair Alistair Croll, Blaine will explain the vision behind Roundabout, and how new technology and local connection can restore our sense of trust at the community level, rebuilding our ability to understand and navigate in a changing society.
